The Top Five Places On My Bucket List

Do You Have A Bucket List?

If you have wanderlust, you probably have a bucket list of cities or countries to visit. Well, I also have a bucket list, too. The thing is my list is incredibly long! There are over 190 countries, and I’ve only visited 16% of them. Oh my, I still have many more trips and vacations to plan. For the sake of time and word count here are the top five places on my bucket list.

Before I plan a trip or vacation, I ask myself why I want to visit. What attractions, history, or cultural aspect draws me to a particular country or city. Things I enjoy include photography, beaches, sea breezes, nature, architecture, and much more. Also, I set personal goals such as visiting the Wonders of the World, the seven continents, and all 50 of the United States. I hope to accomplish these goals, plus see as many countries as I can in my lifetime.

Taj Mahal

Many times  I dreamed of visiting India. Why India? I want to see the Taj Mahal with my own eyes. Surely, photos cannot do it justice. The Taj Mahal is in the Indian city, Agra. Taj Mahal means Crown of the Palace. It is an ivory-white marble mausoleum. It was built in the 1600’s and commissioned by the emperor, Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

That’s some kind of love to construct such a magnificent structure. The Taj Mahal is a Unesco World Heritage Site and also considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Zanzibar

The next stop on my bucket list is Zanzibar located in Tanzania.  I once saw a photo of a Tanzanian woman walking along a sandy beach in Zanzibar. Her beautifully colored clothes, windblown scarf, and Azul blue water convinced me that I must visit! Zanzibar is an archipelago off the coast of East Africa. It sits on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Its name means “black coast,” and it’s sometimes referred to as the Spice Islands. Spices produced are cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper.

Machu Picchu

My third stop on my bucket list is Machu Picchu located in Peru. Built in the 15th century, Machu Picchu is an Inca Citadel. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and sits 7,970 feet above sea level.

This beautiful site was constructed around 1450 as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti. Machu Picchu is a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Petra

Moving on to my next spot is Petra. Located in southern Jordan, Petra is a famous archaeological site. This Wonder of the World dates back to 300 B.C. Imagine that! Petra was the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom and was known as a major regional trading hub.

Another name for Petra is the Rose City because of the color of the stone of which it was constructed.  I hear that photos cannot capture its real beauty. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Jordan’s most visited tourist attraction. Petra is on the bucket list of many tourists because the number of visitors continues to grow each year.

Morocco

I am catching my next flight to Morocco. The name means the place the sun sets,  While there I intend to visit Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Fez, and Meknès. Morocco is on my bucket list because of its rich history, architecture, food, art, and more.

The landscape is beautiful to photograph because the interior consists of mountains, the desert, and coastlines along the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Maldives

Yes, I can count but there’s one more place I dream of visiting. I know I said five places to visit, but The Maldives call my name. It’s on my bucket list! The crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean are so beautiful that a lover of water and beaches cannot resist.

The Maldives is a tropical country composed of 26 atolls. It is known for its beaches, lagoons, and reefs. It is known as the world’s lowest country because the average ground-level elevation is 1.5 meters. Many fear that eventually, rising sea levels may subsequently cause submersion. Let’s all hope that doesn’t happen; however, it’s still a site to be seen.

What’s On Your Bucket List?

These six locations are just a small selection of places I want to visit. Before packing my suitcases, I have to plan my trips wisely and choose the best travel buddy. Most importantly is that I can imagine myself in each location and check off one more thing on my bucket list. Now, tell us what’s on your wishlist?
